The Catholic Church celebrates World Grandparents’ Day near the feast of Saints Joachim and Ann, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary and grandparents of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Apostolic Penitentiary announces that Pope Francis has granted a Plenary Indulgence for the faithful who take part in the 3rd World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly.

The World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly provides a chance to joyfully reaffirm the Church's desire to celebrate alongside everyone the Lord has, in the words of the Bible, "filled with days." Let's all rejoice together! In order to spread awareness of this Day in your parishes and communities, I beg you to identify the older people who are most likely to feel lonely at home or in their places of residence. Let's make sure that nobody experiences loneliness on this day. When we think we have nothing to look forward to, days like those when we are expecting a visit might change that. From a chance encounter, a new friendship can develop. Visiting elderly people who are living alone is an act of mercy.

Here's how you can celebrate the Grandparent’s Day

  • Go to Sacrament of Reconciliation
  • Pray the 6 PM Rosary via Batang DICES facebook page with the prayer intention
  • Attend Holy Mass and receive holy communion. Note: BatangDICES Facebook page will cross-post the online Mass of Rev. Fr. Alain Manalo at Parish of the Holy Family, Lancaster New City.
  • Pray the 6 PM Rosary via Batang DICES Facebook page with the prayer intention for Grandparents and Elderly. Post a picture with Grandparents and post it on social media with the hashtags

Support, love, and care for the elderly. May this experience increase our faith and reaffirm our dedication to serving our fellow Christians. Thank you very much.
